Did you know that 9 out of 10 Men that are subscribed to an email list are considered more intelligent and more educated than those who are not subscribed or have never been subscribed to an email list?
Or that women with chest piece tattoos are considered significantly less attractive to men than women who do not have chest piece tattoos?
Or that drinking 1 or more energy drinks (brand doesn’t matter) per day is more likely to cause headaches, irritability, and disagreeableness in persons who drink them versus people who don’t drink them at all?
Studies have found that out of 2000 people polled, over 85% believed in a statistic just because it was there and quoted. Fascinating stuff.
What if everything I just told you was pulled straight out of my ass?
What if it was all made up?
Because it was.
I call it Lying with Statistics and Numbers.
It’s really easy to do.
You should try it sometime.
Especially if you are trying to gaslight or do psy-ops on the SJW that you work or go to school with.
Nah, I’m just kidding. Don’t go out and do something like that.
It would be mean.
It could be fun though.
But you didn’t hear it from me.

my first husband was really smart with business and statistics and all that stuff. whenever stats came up he always said, “It’s all in how you ask the question.” meaning anything can be proven or disproved using stats by how the question is asked. so even if one is using ‘legit’ stats, and not making them up 😉 … you still can’t believe them.

Indeed. As an old boss of mine once said, it’s not that we can’t balance, it’s just a difference of numbers.” 😂🤣

yeah … he knew how to doctor numbers, too. i think he did it a time or two or so, but, can’t prove it either way, and he’s passed on now, so it doesn’t really matter anyway.

wouldn’t surprise me … as they say, follow the money … statisticians like to get paid, and they get paid to prove or disprove certain premises. if they can’t prove or disprove what their employer wants proven or disproved, then no pay! no pay = no bueno.

it’s amazing how powerful they are, though, and how quickly we believe them … and how much we *want* to believe them.

Absolutely. Another form of persuasion.

i tend to cut myself sometimes when chopping vegs in the kitchen. my family rolls their eyes. i was trying to persuade my daughter that the percentage of times i actually injure myself in proportion to how frequently i use the knife is actually really small. she didn’t buy it! lol! my kids are definitely their father’s daughters!

So create a “pie graph” and show them the amounts of time you’ve been cut vs using the knife. Be conservative in the cuts and liberal on the knife usage. Tell them, “See? If it’s on a pie graph, it must be true.” 😉
